My husband is from Turkey. He loves lamb a lot. However, I am not a big fan of red meat. Onion always goes well with lamb for taste purpose and health aspects. Green onion in dish gives a amazing fragrance to the dish, also providing fresh green color, improving your appetite significantly.

You can change lamb to beef in this dish as I have done many times.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 lb thin slice lamb
  • 1 medium onion slices
  • 1 1/2 bunch green onion ( 1 1/2 inch long piece)
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp sea salt

To marinate the lamb:

  • 1 tbsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tbsp cooking wine
  • 1/2 hot chili flakes
  • 1 tbsp low sodium soy sauce

Preparations:

(1)    Mix all the ingredients listed for lamb marinating first, and then mix them with lamb, let it sit for 15 minutes, or wait till you finish the preparation on onion and green onion.

(2)    Cut onion into slices.

(3)    Cut green onion into 1 1/2 inch long pieces.

(4)    Set the stove on high heat, add the olive oil, then add lamb. Quickly stir the lamb for even heating on the meat, until the liquid is gone. Remove the lamb from the pot.

(5)    Add the onion slice, stir until it becomes half soft. Then add green onion, stir frequently until soft.

(6)    Then add the lamb back to the pot, season with sea salt. Stir for another one minute. Remove from the pot. Serve warm.

Note: You can season with soy sauce and cumin seed if you like strong flavor of soy sauce and cumin. The cumin seed gives a nice texture on the meat and vegetables.

I also make another onion/bok choy vegetable dish with this lamb dish for health consciousness.
