Congee is very popular in southern China. It has been breakfast for thousand of year in China. In my memommry congess is associated with mom and dad’s love in the early morning. In the perspect of Chinese traditional medicine, congee is good for your health, energy, your skin and your physical body performance in many aspects. You can use different ingredients for your congee and you can adjust based on your own taste. My recipe here is for high fiber, high protein, increase your digestion,  remove retained water in your body and improve your skin and hair.

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup pearl barley
  • 1/4 cup black rice
  • 2 tbsp small red beans
  • 1 tbsp sweet rice
  • 2 tbsp raw peanut
  • 8 pieces walnut halves
  • 10 pieces  lotus seed
  • 2 tbsp mung beans
  • 2 tbsp cutted dates
  • 2 tbsp cutted prumes
  • 1 tbsp rock sugar

Preparations:

Soak the black rice, pearl barley, small red beans, peanuts, walnuts first until they are soft.

Then add all the ingredients into a pressure cooker. add four-five time more water than all the ingredients together in volume.

Turn on the stove and set the heat high, until the pressure reaches. Turn off the valves and reduce the heat to low-to-medium for 30 minutes.

Enjoy your thick delicious and sweet congee, breakfast and dinner. You can also have this as afternoon snack. ( Small portion)
